IY, Italian Special Amateur / Ham Radio Event Prefix

Amateur / Ham Radio special event station IY1EY to be active between 1st November 2014 and 31st December 2014, from Loano to commemorate the experiments conducted by Gugliemo Marconi from his yacht 'Elettra' in the Ligurian Sea between 1919 and 1936.

Expect activity on CW and SSB, and on all bands including 30/17/12m.

VP8RAF/100 Falkland Islands Amateur Radio Special Event Station

The RAF Amateur Radio Society, G8FC, has sent an expedition group to the Falkland Islands and will be operating from the Joint Services Welfare Facility Amateur Radio Station using the callsigns VP8RAF/100 and VP8FIR/100

The callsigns commemorate the Battle of Coronel on 1 November 1914 and the 1st Battle of the Falklands on 8 December 1914.

All VP8 stations are able to use the suffix /100 between 1 November and 15 December 2014.

The Battle of Coronel off the West coast of Chile saw a number of Royal Navy ships sunk, both the HMS Good Hope and HMS Monmouth which were lost with all crew.

What became known as the 1st Battle of the Falklands took place to the South East of East Falkland and saw the Royal Navy sink eight ships of the German Imperial Navy including the flagship of Admiral Graf Von Spee.

The RAFARS station will be using the following frequencies: CW 3.505, 7015, 10.112, 14.055, 18.070, 21.055, 24.892, 28.055. SSB 3.790, 7.155, 14.270, 18.123, 21.290, 24.945, 28.250.

OL90OK - First Czech ham radio contact

Ninety years ago on the 8th November 1925, the first Amateur / Ham Radio contract in the former Czechoslovakia (now Czech Republic) was made.

To mark this occasion, a special event station has been created - OL90OK, and will be on the air until 15 November 2014.
