Southwestern Division Director Censured by ARRL

AREL Southwestern Director N6AA has been censured by the ARRL Board after “his actions and manners” in criticizing the Code of Conduct for Board members were “not acceptable and cannot continue, with no notable change in his behavior since that time.”

Mr. Norton is admonished by the Board that no further, similar behavior will be tolerated.
— ARRL Resolution

Despite statements from four ARRL members in support of Norton, the Board found that Norton’s violation of the ARRL Code of Conduct had “caused harm to the League” and provided sufficient cause to publicly censure Norton for “unacceptable behavior as an ARRL Board member.”

SDR pioneer Dr. Vanu Gopal Bose SK

Software Defined Radio pioneer Dr. Vanu Gopal Bose passed away, aged 52

In 1998, Bose founded Vanu Inc. which pioneered the commercialization of software-defined radio and was the first company to receive FCC certification of a software-defined radio in 2004.

The firm’s technology, which grew out of Bose's graduate research at MIT, increases the role of software in operating the radio-based component of wireless communications networks, including those used for cell phone communications.

His company had recently deployed over 40 Community Connect base stations in Puerto Rico to provide cellular service in the wake of two devastating hurricanes.
