New IARU Region 2 HF Beacon Coordinator

The International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) Region 2 Executive Committee has named Dennis Stice, WI5V, of Oklahoma City, as the new HF Beacon Coordinator for the region. Former Region 2 HF Beacon Coordinator Bill Hayes, WJ5O, stepped down in January 2018, after 10 years.

““During this period Bill, has advised the IARU R2 Executive Committee and provided detailed reports on the status of HF beacons in the continent,” Leandro said. “The position couldn’t have been in better hands.”

Kristen McIntyre, K6WX, Appointed ARRL Pacific Division Vice Director

Kristen McIntyre, K6WX, of Fremont, California, has been appointed Pacific Division Vice Director, ARRL President Rick Roderick, K5UR, has announced. The appointment came upon the recommendation of Director Jim Tiemstra, K6JAT, who succeeded long-time Pacific Division Director Bob Vallio, W6RGG, upon Vallio’s election as ARRL Second Vice President.

Kristen McIntyre, K6WX

McIntyre, who has served as ARRL Technical Coordinator for the East Bay Section, says on her QRZ.com profile that she’s been interested in radio since she was about 5 years old. She got her Technician ticket in the late 1970s while a student at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After letting her license expire, she re-licensed and obtained her Amateur Extra license.

She also is licensed in Japan, her second home, as JI1IZZ. McIntyre is president of the Palo Alto Amateur Radio Club and is a senior software engineer at Apple. 

The Radio Amateur Society of Australia

A new Australian amateur radio representative body has been formed - The Radio Amateur Society of Australia (RASA).

RASA will listen to the needs and concerns of all amateurs and will make submissions to the regulator on their behalf.

RASA is a streamlined organisation focused on representation. The group will be using modern technology to manage operations and communications with members.

Membership is free for the first 12 months. There is no obligation to renew in the second year.

The Radio Amateur Society of Australia intends to open lines of communication with as many Australian Radio Amateurs and Clubs as possible to draw from their knowledge and experience.

Membership growth has been strong, with many well known and influential VK amateurs joining RASA.
