RSGB Past President GI3KYP SK

RSGB Past President Alexander Davidson Patterson OBE, FIEE, GI3KYP, died on October 10, 2018, peacefully, at home, surrounded by his family.

Better known as Barney, he was RSGB President in 1967.

Barney traveled widely during his Presidency and, among many other achievements, oversaw the purchase of 28 Little Russell Street, London, as the then-new RSGB HQ.

Also holding the call sign EI4BC, he served as President of the Irish Radio Transmitters Society in 1971 and 1972, the only person ever to have held both posts.

His funeral is on Monday 15 October 2018 at 1pm in Roselawn Crematorium.


2018 AMSAT Board of Directors Election Results

As a result of the 2018 Board of Directors Election, Tom Clark, K3IO; Mark Hammond, N8MH; and Bruce Paige, KK5DO; will serve on the board for two years.

The First Alternate is Peter Portanova, W2JV. The Second Alternate is Scott Harvey, KA7FVV. Both will serve for a term of one year.

The results of the voting with 698 ballots cast are as follows:

New ARRL Chief Executive Officer Elected by Board of Directors

The ARRL Board of Directors has elected Howard E. Michel, WB2ITX, of Dartmouth, Massachusetts, to be ARRL’s new Chief Executive Officer, starting on October 15. Michel (his name rhymes with "nickel") is currently Chief Technology Officer at UBTECH Education, and Senior Vice President of UBTECH Robotics, a $5 billion Shenzhen, China, artificial intelligence and robotics company. As the Chief Technology Officer at UBTECH Education, Michel helped build this company from a startup in China to $100 million in valuation.
