100th Anniversary of JARL and Amateur Radio in Japan

On 12th June 1926, “Japan Amateur Radio League” was established by 37 members and they sent out the message notifying the establishment to the amateurs worldwide as given below.

“We have the honour of informing that we amateurs in Japan have organised today the Japanese Amateur Radio League. Please QST to all stations.”

In September next year, 1927, the shortwave radio telegraph and telephone experimental station “JXAX” was licensed. This is considered the first amateur radio station in Japan.

New RSGB Nominations Committee Chair Appointed

The RSGB Board has appointed Will Richardson, 2E0WYA as the new Nominations Committee Chair.

The Society would like to increase the diversity of its Board, and is also looking particularly for radio amateurs who have knowledge of the science and technology of amateur radio, and the spectrum it uses.

Senate Confirms Olivia Trusty to FCC

The Senate has confirmed Olivia Trusty, a Republican nominated by President Trump, to the Federal Communications Commission. Once sworn in, Trusty will shift the FCC to a 2-1 Republican majority.

The simultaneous resignations earlier this month of Republican Commissioner Nathan Simington and Democratic Commissioner Geoffrey Starks left the agency without a quorum and in a 1-1 party tie.

Trusty’s nomination was confirmed Tuesday 17th June 2025, by a 53-45 vote, mostly along party lines.
