75 people passed the 90 question Class A exam for the HAREC compatible licence, equivalent to UK Full. The Class A RAE is a single exam direct route to the Full (ZS prefix) 1 kilowatt licence, there is no need to take the Class B RAE as well.

Just 4 people passed the 30 question Class B exam for the 100 watt licence which is equivalent to UK Foundation. One difference between the UK is that in South Africa you need to be aged under 20 to sit the Class B exam. You are allowed to hold a Class B (ZU prefix) licence until you are 25.

The exams are held twice a year, in May and October.

New Swedish Amateur / Ham Radio Textbook

Sweden's SSA has announced a new edition of the 370 page amateur radio textbook KonCEPT is available for free download

Now the second edition of KonCEPT for amateur radio certificates is available in print. The first edition, edited by Lennart Wiberg SM7KHF (SK), was released in 1997. Large parts have been performing well, while others have become somewhat out of date.

Work on the new edition has taken more than two years. A great deal of work was initially required to digitize the first edition, as no original files could be uploaded.

The book has been completely revised and several new sections are added, including newly written materials on electromagnetic fields and on electrical safety. In addition, references to regulations and internationally harmonized knowledge requirements (HAREC) have been updated.

The printed book covers approximately 370 A4 pages, covering everything you need to know to pass the amateur radio certificate exam and much more. The book can be ordered from SSA Hamshop at cost price.
