The next free amateur radio Foundation Online training course run by volunteers from Essex Ham starts on 2nd January 2022.

The RSGB's introduction of online exams that can be taken at home has led to a surge in demand for free online amateur radio training courses such as that run by Essex Ham.

The results of the year that are coming to an end have been positive, since most of the planned actions have been carried out, such as the bi-monthly exercises to search for aeronautical beacons. Exercises that will resume on Saturday 22 January 2022 as well as on 19th March, 21th May, 17 September and 19 November, with a surprise night exercise during the summer.

The "storm" day will take place on Saturday 12th February 2022 and the technical day on Saturday 2nd April 2021. The relaxation day is scheduled for Saturday 30th July and the general assembly will be held on Saturday 26th November 2021.

Ham Radio Exams in Austria Cancelled

The pandemic has forced the cancellation of amateur radio exams in Austria as well as the popular Christmas Electronics and Radio Flea Market planned for 11th December 2021.

Exams planned for Vienna and Graz are among those that have been canceled due to the Covid pandemic.

Amateur radio exams in Austria are oral with amateurs asking candidates questions about the hobby. Unlike the UK, USA and Canada there is no capability to take the exam online.

Austria has 3 categories of license:

  • Class 3 Entry Level - 100 watts 144/430 MHz

  • Class 4 CEPT Novice - 100 watts 1.8/3.5/21/28/144/430 MHz

  • Class 1 CEPT HAREC 400w all bands, Clubs can run 1 kW
