GB2012RA active from Olympic Shooting venue

GB2012RA has been allocated to the Vintage Operating Group who are based in Woolwich more usually known as GB2RA in and around the Royal Artillery Museum in the former Royal Arsenal, for the period of the Olympic Shooting - 28th July to 5th August 2012.

The station will be operating through normal daytime hours and may be late and early operating subject to operator availability, from the "front garden" of the Woolwich Central Baptist Church in Woolwich New Road, as close to the shooting venue as we could manage due to various security restrictions.

The team will welcome licenced operators to come along and help - please bring your licence with you and proof of identity as well as any interested people who just want to know what it is all about. Young people are especially welcome to come and find out what Amateur Radio is all about, and will be offered the opportunity to use the microphone.

UK Olympics special events satellite operations

With the 'London 2012 Olympics' official opening taking place the 'Amateur Radio Flagship Event Stations' will be operating beginning Wednesday 25 July 2012 until the Games close on 9th September 2012.

The London station 2O12L (two-oscar-one-two-London) and the station in Wales (two-oscar-one-two-Wales) will be operating on amateur HF and VHF/UHF bands during the event.

The Barry Amateur Radio Society in Wales, subject to operator availability and suitable passes, will endeavor to make contacts via the amateur radio satellites as well, of course, as the HF bands.

London has a restriction imposed on VHF/UHF activation which will limit personal operations on the satellites. Outside the restricted zone however there maybe other amateur radio operators who may be active, not as "flagship stations" but using a personal or club call sign under a notice of variation.
