Wild Atlantic Way

Throughout 2017 from the 1st January 2017, Irish Radio Amateurs will be on air with nine special callsigns - EI11WAW through to EI99WAW.

Each call will be associated with one of the counties making up the 'Wild Atlantic Way'.

Each callsign will have its own distinctive QSL card depicting a highlight of the county linked to the callsign.

QSL requests via ClubLog or the Bureau. For requests for a direct QSL via ClubLog or to EI6AL enclose $2, or €2 via paypal to payments@irts.ie.

A Certificate will be made available for download to any station that works all nine calls, any band any mode. Apply by email to QSL manager EI6AL giving name and call. A certificate can also be sent by post - send €5 ($5) to cover postage either through ClubLog, direct to EI6AL or via paypal to payments@irts.ie.

Apply for Youngsters On The Air UK 2017

YOTA 2017, the 7th edition of Youngsters On The Air will be held in the UK, hosted by the RSGB.

The RSGB Youth Committee be be leading the preparations, supported by other divisions of the society.

The home of scouting, Gilwell Park in North-East London will be the site of the event. Gilwell Park boasts great facilities including a number of antenna towers and beams.

Activities will include

  • Intercultural evening
  • Visit to the historic Bletchley Park (home to the National Radio Centre and the codebreakers who managed to crack the Enigma code)
  • A day in London to explore its Science Museum, famous landmarks, and maybe do some souvenir shopping
  • Building your own radio kits
  • UK Foundation Licence Practical Assessments and Exam
  • Build your own radio receiver
  • Take part in the EU HF Contest
  • Operate the GB17YOTA station
  • Rifle shooting , kayaking , raft building, archery , zip wire, leap of faith
  • Antenna Building & SOTA Activation

2017 Canadian Special Callsign Prefixes

The Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC) have announced special alternative callsign prefixes will help publicise the 150th anniversary of Canada’s Confederation in 2017.

A series of national, regional and local events are to occur during the landmark year and the RAC says it has negotiated for VA callsigns to use CF, VE to be CG, VO may be CH and VY stations will be able to use CI.

Use of the alternative prefixes are expected to also include commemorative QSL cards.
