SARL VHF QSO Party and Hammies Sprint

SARL VHF QSO Party and Hammies Sprint

The SARL VHF / UHF QSO Party is on the air on Saturday 8 June and the Hammies Sprint is on the air on Sunday 9 June.

The VHF/UHF QSO Party is a fun activity to make QSOs without using a repeater and will run from 12:00 to 16:00 UTC with FM and SSB activity on 6, 4 and 2 meters and on 70 and 23 cm as per the band plan.

QSOs must be two-way point to point and the exchange is your call sign, your name and age and a signal report. Try making QSOs on different bands. Submit your log sheets by Monday 17 June by e-mail to contest@sarl.org.za. All the log sheets will be entered into a lucky draw.

W-3-W - The Whiskey Rebellion

On 8th June 2019, the spirit of "The Whiskey Rebellion! can be savoured by getting into the "spirit" and keying up your mic and listening our for the callsign W-3-W - or Whiskey Three Whiskey.

The relevant spirit here is good old American moonshine and whiskey - and the call sign you'll hear is from the special event station of the Mountain Amateur Radio Club in Maryland.

The club will be marking the 225th anniversary of the Whiskey Rebellion, the infamous uprising by farmers in the Appalachian Mountain region who were pushing back against taxation of alcohol imposed by the then-new American government.

Whiskey operators expect to be on 75, 40 and 20 meters SSB as well as other bands, depending upon conditions.
