The spring 2021 Red Cross Nationwide Emergency Communications Winlink Drill will be held on 8th May 2021, which is World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2021. Details and instructions are available.

Ahead of the May nationwide exercise, the American Red Cross (ARC) Emergency Communications training group will continue its Winlink Thursdays training sessions on 11th March and 8th April 2021.

From our modest beginnings in 1921, Air Force has grown into a potent, World-class Air Force that Australia relies upon in both conflict and peace. The men and women of the Royal Australian Air Force have achieved great success in serving Australia and its national interest over the past 100 years.

The RAAF was formed on 31st March 1921, to mark this Centenary the Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA) will be celebrating with two call signs:

  • VK100AF 1st March to 31st August 2021, which will be used by a team of Radio Amateurs across the bands around Australia.

  • VI100AF 1st March 2021 to 29th May 2021 will be used by Radio Amateurs that are either current or veteran military personnel and some activities may be from military bases.

Taking place Sunday 25th April 2021 6-8pm local time, the Light Up 2 Meters Night, an FM Simplex Event will be taking place. Call on 146.52, US 145.5 UK, or your local 2 Meter FM Simplex Frequency.

With all the bands and modes available across the amateur radio spectrum, the most common to all of us is 2 Meter FM and Light Up 2 Meters Night is meant for all of us to get on the air and make QSOs. Operate fixed, mobile, or portable, whatever method you choose, everyone wants to hear your signal on the air. It will be springtime, so, perhaps it is time to check out that antenna and feedline, maybe even make some upgrades. Perhaps you have that new colinear antenna that you want to get on top of the car. Maybe you want to find the high ground for that portable operation.
