Ken Hatton, G3VBA - SK

Ken Hatton, G3VBA became Silent Key on 5 April 2019.

He became GB2RS Manager in January 2014 and dealt with the paperwork for volunteer newsreaders. He became interested in amateur radio as a schoolboy and had been licensed for 53 years.

A member of Warrington ARC, he served as their secretary for a number of years. He maintained his interests in HF, VHF, UHF, digital voice and data modes throughout his life. At one point he spent a great deal of his time helping to create Word files of many of the hand-written files in the RSGB archive.

Rest in peace Ken.

The RSGB are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to perform the role of Beyond Exams Champion. The post holder will play a key role in supporting the implementation of Strategy 2022, especially in the priorities of Growth, Participation and Diversity.

Beyond Exams is a suite of initiatives designed to promote engagement, learning and enjoyment in amateur radio for all. As a member of the newly-formed Amateur Radio Development Committee, the Champion is needed to look after the schemes under this banner.

New Chair for ARRL Board’s Public Service Enhancement Working Group

ARRL Roanoke Division Director George “Bud” Hippisley, W2RU, is the new chairman of the ARRL Board’s Public Service Enhancement Working Group (PSEWG). He succeeds Great Lakes Division Director Dale Williams, WA8EFK, who stepped away as PSEWG chair after being named to lead the ARRL Programs and Services Committee, to which the PSEWG reports. Hippisley thanked Williams for his work in leading the PSEWG since its inception more than 3 years ago.

With the completion of several major tasks, including the establishment of the ARES® Plan, a standard set of principles and guidelines for emergency preparedness volunteers, and the launch of the ARES Connect volunteer database management program, two original PSEWG members have stepped down
