UK Ham Attempts Lands End to John O Groats Solo Cycle

Mark Haynes (M0DXR) described attempting a cycle from the most northern part of the UK to the southern tip.

This has been a dream of mine for around 20 years. I know of the superb work that Mind offers and mental health awareness is something that is very close to me personally. This journey is about raising awareness more broadly. There are some secondary aspects to this cycle too. The physical challenge is exciting and I will get to experience some of the most spectacular sights en-route. My Amateur Radio hobby will also be a part of this journey. My cycle will be equipped with radio communications equipment and the route will include peaks and summits to help aid more distant contacts. The antenna will be mounted on the rear of the cycle. A special event callsign will be used from the bike and possibly also on the way north from various base stations too.

Iā€™m excited about the training programme that will form a significant part of my life over the next 12 months and I thank my family, especially my wife Georgina, in advance. Georgina will meet me after each stage of the ride. The target is to have 10 overnight stays from end to end.

Definition of the exact route is work in progress at this time, however, the total mileage is expected to be around 900 miles.

Thank you ever so much if you are able to support this initiative!
