18th World ARDF Championship

The 18th World Amateur Radio Direction Finding Championship will take place in Bulgaria on 3-9 September 2016

Hundreds of competitors from 39 countries are expected to take part in the event hosted by the Bulgarian Federation of Radio Amateurs (BFRA).

Bulgaria has been the host of numerous important international ARDF competitions and the organizers say they have always done their best to ensure both competitors and guests leave their country with nothing but good memories.

For the 2016 World Championships they have chosen new areas, where, ARDF competitions haven’t previously taken place.

BFRA say they will do their best to ensure that the World Championships 2016 will be conducted at the highest technological level and will take special care to satisfy all participants’ needs.

Pokémon GO is RadioSport?

There are interesting comparisons between the recent Pokemon Go App and Amateur RadioSport, as detailed by ARRL Marketing Manager Bob Inderbitzen NQ1R.

In a recent posting on the ARRL website, Inderbitzen compares the achievement and fun between the two activities.

Earlier in the week the ARRL, in response to a Tweet about a Pokémon Go cheat post by the Youngsters On The Air (YOTA) event in Austria, tweeted.

December is YOTA Month

Youth on the Air (YOTA) month is this December 2015, and over 40 YOTA callsigns in total will be active from schools, scoutings or just used by young radio amateurs under the age of 26 years.  

All Worldwide amateur radio operators are asked to make a QSO with the youngsters, be aware that some of them are new to the radio hobby, while others are more experienced. Goal is to show this amazing radio amateur hobby to youth and to have more “youngsters on the air”.

There are four special awards available for working YOTA Stations

  • Bronze: worked 5 YOTA stations
  • Silver: worked 10 YOTA stations
  • Gold: worked 15 YOTA stations
  • Platinum: worked 25 YOTA stations
