Contest Events at Dayton Hamvention 2018

Updates/information for the HamVention are as follows

  • Many of the Dayton contester related activities are listed on the Contest Super Suite web site at http://contestsupersuite.com
  • Four nights of Super Suite fun hosted by the North Coast Contesters (NCC), the Frankford Radio Club (FRC) and the Mad River Radio Club(MRRC).
  • There is a tab for Contest Related Events which gives you a good summary of activities including speaker/topic information for the Hamvention. Friday Antenna forum, the Saturday RTTY Contest forum and the Saturday Contest forum.
  • ConTest University (CTU) is held the day before Hamvention opens. Information to register is at http://contestuniversity.com CTU is still taking applications for CTU tuition scholarships for those 25 years old or younger – use the Contact Us tab to apply.
  • The Dayton Contest Dinner will be held Saturday evening 19th May. Club tables are filling up and singles are still available. Chris, DL1MGB, is the speaker. Details are at http://contestdinner.com
  • The 29th annual Dayton Top Band dinner is Friday 18th May. Jerry, WB9Z, is the speaker. Details are at http://topbanddinner.com
  • Then there is four nights of pizza parties in the Contest Super Suite hosted by the Potomac Valley Radio Club (PVRC), the Yankee Clipper Contest Club (YCCC) and the Society of Midwest Contesters (SMC). 

First Class CW Operators Club 80th Anniversary

In May 2018 the First Class CW Operators Club, FOC, will be celebrating its 80th anniversary.

Between 1-31st May 2018, FOC members from around the world will be active on the bands with CW with special callsigns, many of them containing the number ‘80’ or a ‘FOC’ suffix. Points will be awarded for working these special calls.

The challenge is being run as a leaderboard on ClubLog, and your ranking in the leaderboard determines the award level you achieve.

RAF100 Award Certificate

The Royal Air Force (RAF) are celebrating their 100 birthday on the 1st April 2018 (RAF100).

As part of the celebrations, RAFARS are holding a RAF100 Award Certificate.

Royal Air Force Amateur Radio Society RAF100 Award Certificate Rules

  1. The Royal Air Force is celebrating 100 years on the 1st April 2018.
  2. The Royal Air Force Amateur Radio Society (RAFARS) G8FC is inviting all Amateur Radio Stations to take part in the RAF100 Award Certificate.

    The aim is to contact RAFARS members and Affiliated Clubs. The Award Certificate will be presented to Amateur Radio Stations who collect a minimum of 250 points. The Award period is from the 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2019 and any mode may be used.
  3. As part of the RAFARS celebrations, there will be three Special Special Event Stations (SSES) and a number of Special Event Stations (SES). These Stations attract bonus points, defined below.
    1. SSES: GB100RAF, VP8RAF/100, ZB2RAF = 30 points. Note: GB100RAF will be using various locations during the year and claims can be made for different locations, log to show QTH.
    2. SES: using G0RAF, G1RAF, G3RAF, G4RAF, G6RAF, G7RAF, G8RAF, GB1RAF, GB2RAF = 20 points. These stations may be using various locations during the year and claims can be made for different locations, log to show QTH.
    3. RAFARS Members = 10 points.
    4. Your station to operate strictly in accordance with the rules and spirit of the Award.
  4. The proposed SSES and SES operating schedules can be seen at www.rafars.org
  5. RAF100 Award Certificate claims to be forwarded to RAF100award@rafars.org the log to be an attached document. Proof of contact(s) may be required. QSLs not required.
  6. Successful claims will receive their Certificates via email.
