Happy Birthday FUNcube-1 (AO73)

Thursday 21st November 2019, saw the sixth birthday of the launch of the amateur radio CubeSat, FUNcube-1 (AO73)

A very short time after the launch from Yasny in Russia and within a few minutes from deployment, the very first frame of data from the low power transmitter on board, was detected and decoded by ZS1LS in South Africa. He was able to relay the data over the internet from his Dashboard to the Data Warehouse and the numbers, appeared, as if by magic, at the launch party being held at the RSGB National Radio Centre at Bletchley Park.

Russian OTH Radar Contayner Everywhere

The Russian Over-The-Horizon Radar Contayner has been active in the 7, 10, 14 and 18 MHz amateur radio allocations

The OTH radar transmissions have been 40 sps, FMOP and 12 kHz wide. Additionally IARUMS reports there has been a significant increase in Russian military traffic using F1B, PSK and OFDM in the 7, 10, 14 and 21 MHz bands.

Big Power, Big Dish Set to be Active for 1296 MHz Moonbounce

The Argentine Institute of Radio Astronomy’s 30-meter dish antenna will be active on 1296 MHZ EME until 3rd November 2019 running an effective isotropic radiated power (EIRP) of 10 megawatts on SSB, CW, and JT65 (the dish provides 50 dB of gain).

The operation will focus on 1296.1 MHz. Operation schedule: 30th October 2019, 1615 – 2015 UTC; 31st October 2019, 1715 – 2115 UTC; 1st November 2019, 1800 – 2200 UTC; 2nd November 1900 – 2300 UTC, and 3rd November 2019, 1950 – 2350 UTC.
