White House honors Limor Fried AC2SN

The US White House has honored radio amateur Limor Fried AC2SN as White House Champion of Change

While studying engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Limor ‘Ladyada’ Fried decided to create a company focused on supporting learning electronics for makers of all ages and skill levels.

In 2005, Fried founded Adafruit which has grown to now employ more than 100 individuals in their 50,000 sq ft. NYC factory. Limor is committed to building both innovation and community and is known for creating resources for learning.

Limor was the first female engineer on the cover of WIRED magazine and was awarded Entrepreneur magazine's Entrepreneur of the Year in 2012 and was also on the NYC Industrial Business Advisory Council.

Adafruit is a 100% woman-owned company.

New National Belize Amateur / Ham Radio Society

A new Belize Amateur / Ham Radio Society has been formed to represent radio amateur within Belize, formerly known as British Honduras.

The group gained NGO status in May, and have continued their restructuring by adding content to the group's website and facebook page.

The group have submitted an application to join Region 2 of the IARU.

Members are joining monthly meetings including operation days and workshops

UK Advanced Distance Learning Course

For most people, distance learning is not as good as face-to-face training but these courses are ideal for anyone who cannot make it to traditional classroom events

The Bath-based distance learning team will be running an Advanced amateur radio course from early July to December.

Weekly work packages are sent out to students who complete the studying at home and submit answers to revision questions and exercises via the internet.

Some video tutorials and demonstrations are included in the course material and links to other useful resources are also provided.
