IRTS AGM Rejects New Licence Level Proposal

Each year at the Irish Radio Transmitters Society Annual General Meeting trophies are presented to amateurs who achieve a very high standard in home construction. This year the Folan Shield was presented to Tom Nevin EI4HCB and the Kevin Freeney Trophy was presented to Darwin Penamora EI4KX.

There was only one motion before the 2021 AGM and this came from the Galway Radio Experimenters Club who asked that IRTS, in representing Ireland, support the inclusion of a new Licence Level in Ireland as part of a 3 year plan. Following a well-researched and well-presented case by the GREC representatives, the motion was defeated by the narrowest of margins.

Next year’s Annual General Meeting will be hosted by the South Eastern Radio Group, date and venue to be announced.

RSGB National Radio Centre to reopen

The RSGB’s National Radio Centre (NRC) will reopen on Friday 28 May 2021 and be open each day, other than Wednesdays, until further notice.

Whilst the radio room will be open for the demonstration of amateur radio, visitors won’t be allowed inside the radio room and only NRC volunteers will be permitted to operate the GB3RS station.

The RSGB reserve the right to close the National Radio Centre at short notice should the COVID-19 situation change, so do check our website before travelling.

Unfortunately, the NRC will be closed completely from Monday, 14 June 2021 to Thursday, 17 June 2021 inclusive while groundworks are carried out in the immediate vicinity of the NRC.

Visitors to Bletchley Park need to pre-book and pay via their website so we are unable to offer our free entry voucher to RSGB members while that system is in place.
