ARRL Expands Publications Archive

ARRL has expanded member access to its rich archive of publications. The ARRL Periodicals Archive and Search now includes content from two more popular ARRL magazines: QEX — A Forum for Communications Experimenters, which features technical articles and columns of interest to radio amateurs and communications professionals; and NCJ — the National Contest Journal, which covers information, scores, and advice from the world of competitive radiosport and the contributions of top contesters.

Before accessing the archive, members should ensure they are first logged in to the ARRL website. Members may now view and download articles from across the extensively indexed archive of QEX from 1981 to 2011, and NCJ from 1973 to 2011. Members can access an index and view copies of articles from the huge ARRL periodicals archive.

Broadcast networks to spread Australian broadcast FM and TV coverage

To help media organisations in the Pacific, Southeast Asia and South Asia provide quality media services, the Australian Government is establishing the Indo-Pacific Media Fund. One of the Fund's first initiatives is to support the Australian Associated Press to provide targeted training and access to news content in the Pacific.

The Strategy is underpinned by the Government's investment of over $40 million over five years in the ABC to create new content, improve digital engagement, increase ongoing support for media partners in the Pacific, Southeast Asia and South Asia, and expand Radio Australia's FM footprint across the Pacific.

The PacificAus TV initiative is also receiving $28.4 million over five years to bolster the viability of Pacific regional media and expand access to Australian commercial television programs.

Minister for Communications, the Hon Michelle Rowland MP said "This Strategy continues Australia's longstanding commitment to supporting a robust media sector in our region."

ARRL Teachers Institute on Wireless Technology Adds Third Level

ARRL continues to develop the highly successful ARRL Teachers Institute on Wireless Technology. Much as is done with new equipment in the amateur radio hobby, a prototype is being tinkered with this week: TI3. The third phase of the program is centred around space. Teachers who have each been through the previous versions of the program are at ARRL Headquarters in Newington, Connecticut, to test the program.

ARRL Education and Learning Manager Steve Goodgame, K5ATA, said having the experienced educators on hand to test out the new training is invaluable. “This is really about taking it a step further – providing a highly specialized form of training. We’ve developed a good program, but you never know how well something is going to work in practice until you try it.”

The educator-hams of this first cohort couldn’t be happier to experiment with it.
