2016 ITU Radio Regulations Released

The 2016 ITU Radio Regulations have been released, available as a free download via the ITU website, in English and five other languages.

This global treaty known as the ITU Radio Regulations, and upon which mobile communications and all other uses of the wireless technology internationally depend, is celebrating its 110th anniversary - An incredible success story!

Coming into force from 1st January 2017, the regulations are the result of the work following the World Radiocommunication Conference 2015.

An event to celebrate the 110th anniversary of the Radio Regulations will take place at the World Radiocommunication Seminar (WRS-16) being held in Geneva from 12 – 16 December 2016.

Ofcom 5 GHz Consultation Responses

Ofcom have released the responses, including feedback given by the RSGB and AMSAT following the consultation of using more Amateur Radio spectrum for Wi-Fi 

The RSGB response notes "We are deeply disappointed in respect of Ofcom’s compliance with its duties…" and goes on to explain how "Ofcom’s research is badly flawed and belittles incumbents…"

The Society points out that "Ofcom strategy for Consumers is also flawed…" and"Ofcom’s preference risks causing harmful interference at home and internationally".

60m for Luxembourg

This month, October 2016 has seen the availability of the 60m band for use ny Amateur / Ham Radio Operators in Luxembourg.

The national frequency plan has been updated and published in the Memorial (the official Luxembourg government publication) meaning from  10th October 2016 operators are allowed to use 5351.5 to 5366.5 kHz on a secondary basis with an "Effective Radiated Power" of 15W.

The frequency of the beacon LX0HF was reset to 5205.25kHz.
