Bulgarian hams Gain Limited Access to 50 MHz

Radio amateurs in Bulgaria have obtained temporary access to the digital portion of 50 MHz band

Thanks to the effort made by BFRA (Bulgarian Federation of Radio Amateurs), the Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) with the Permit No. 02353 / 05.09.2019 has provisionally authorized to use the 50.310 MHz to 50.335 MHz segment.

This band is provided free of charge to all Bulgarian radio amateurs to be able to work and experiment with the new modes of operation in recent years.

BFRA is actively working with all institutions involved in extending the 6 meters band, and we hope that our efforts will be successful soon.

VK Licence Conditions Changes

The ACMA Spectrum Licence Policy Section has implemented an amendment to the licence conditions for VK amateurs. This came into effect on 21 September and varies all 3 licence classes.

The principle changes for Advanced and Standard licence holders are the removal of bandwidth restrictions for frequencies from 1.8 MHz and above. However, the big winners are Foundation licence holders with mode and equipment restrictions being removed. This means a Foundation licence holder can now use computer-generated modes and they are no longer limited to using only commercially manufactured radios.

Frequency allocations and power outputs remain unchanged for all licence classes.

6m Digital Segment for Bulgaria

Bulgarian radio amateurs have obtained temporary access to the digital portion of the 50MHz band, 50.310 to 50.335MHz.

Previously their allocation was restricted to just 50.05 to 50.2MHz, which excluded digital usage such as FT8.

A key objective of WRC-19 is to extend 50MHz access to all countries across Region 1.
