VOA Museum to host 75th anniversary commemoration of D-Day

The National Voice of America Museum of Broadcasting in West Chester will host a 75th-anniversary commemoration of the D-Day landing on Thursday, June 6 at 9 a.m. on the museum’s front lawn.

The event sponsored by Kehoe Financial Advisors of Cincinnati will honour the memory of WWII soldiers who participated in D-Day and the Battle of Normandy, as well as veterans of all wars.

(VOA Museum Photo) After a colour guard presentation by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7696 and a brief ceremony, veterans and other attendees will be invited inside the museum for free coffee, doughnuts and museum tours until noon. The public is invited. Coffee will be donated by CAVU of West Chester, with doughnuts provided by Kroger stores in Sharonville and on Tylerville Road in West Chester.

GCARC Special Event Station

Members of the Government Communication Amateur Radio Club (GCARC) will be operating two special event stations in celebration of the centenary of Government Communication Headquarters (GCHQ).

GCHQ is the United Kingdom’s Signals Intelligence Agency and is the organisation that was formerly based at Bletchley Park during WWII.

Operation will be from approximately 0800 to 1600 UTC on June 21st, with July 5th being held as a backup date in case of inclement weather or other issues. GB100GCHQ will operate from the organisations’ headquarters in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire and GB100GCB will operate from the organisations’ station in Bude, Cornwall. Operation will be primarily on HF using a mixture of voice, CW and data modes. Some VHF/UHF data mode operation may also be possible. Keep an eye on the DX Cluster for information about which band and mode the stations are operating on. Also listen out for the club callsigns G3SSO and G8CQA which may be active during the same period.
