Radio hams active in Argentina floods

Radio amateurs in Argentina are providing communications support in response to flooding. Nets are currently operating on 7.070 MHz and 7.120 MHz

“The flooding rains have been very strong in the city of Buenos Aires and surrounding areas, and in the city of La Plata, which is the capital of the Province of Buenos Aires, located 60 kilometers south of the City of Buenos Aires.  So far 57 people have died, 51 of them in La Plata.

The frequencies that are being used on 40 meters are 7070 and 7120, in addition to VHF and UHF repeaters kept on alert for the radio club La Plata, LU8DZE.” Reports RAYNET-HF

Radio Ham named to Senior State Department Telecom post

Radio amateur Julie N. Zoller, KJ4EMJ, has succeeded Richard C. Beaird at the Department of State as Senior Deputy Coordinator of the Office of Multilateral Affairs, Communications and Information Policy Directorate, Economics and Business Affairs Bureau.

The ARRL report that in this position, she will serve as principal advisor to the United States Coordinator for International Communications and Information Policy.

“Julie Zoller’s appointment is great news for United States telecommunications interests, including, but by no means limited to, radio amateurs,” commented ARRL Chief Executive Officer David Sumner, K1ZZ. “She is well known at the ITU and has earned great respect by virtue of her expertise.”

Irish entries wanted for Youngsters On The Air

During the summer of 2013, a youth radio camp 'Youngsters On The Air' will be held near Tartu, Estonia from 5-12 August.

There will be 10 teams participating from different European member associations of IARU R1. The camp is organised by the Estonian Radio Amateurs Union.

During this week teams of young radio amateurs from 10 different European countries will be participating in different activities: presentations, Contests, visiting radio stations, observatory, etc.

Young operators or SWL's aged between 14-25, are being sought to represent Ireland, and should contact Ger McNamara, IRTS Youth Co-ordinator on 087 2532512 or by email to ei4gxb@gmail.com

As two previous events in Romania and Belgium/Netherlands have shown, it will be a great experience for the young hams which they will never forget.
