World Radio Day London 2017

SOAS Radio will be hosting World Radio Day London on Friday 10th February 2017

World Radio Day is an event for exploring today’s world of radio, bringing together community stations, local organisations, and international media groups to exhibit their work and create an exchange of ideas between industry professionals, radio enthusiasts, academics, and anyone curious.

The event will be addressing the theme of ‘Radio and Global Transitions’; the experience of migration, health crises, innovative communication technologies and how they are reflected in radio.

Come learn and participate in exhibitions, workshops and discussions about contemporary approaches to radio. See what’s happening in the airwaves around you!

Radiation 'Clouds' Detected at Aviation Altitudes

A report has discovered the discovery radiation 'clouds' at aviation altitudes.

When airplanes fly through these clouds, dose rates of cosmic radiation normally absorbed by air travelers can double or more.  The study references a flight taken over Antarctica in October 2015, when a sudden spike in the dose rate signaled the airplane's passage through a "radiation cloud."

Semi-Consciously Learn Morse Code

By wearing a computer, a scientific report suggests learning morse code can be achieved with little effort.

Based on a study that used mobile devices to deliver the dots and dashes whilst performing everyday tasks.

Googles Glass device was demonstrated delivering the haptic feedback at a wearable computing event in Germany last year.

Ph.D. student Caitlyn Seim and computer science professor Thad Starner of the Georgia Institute of Technology have shared their successful preliminary results
