New Book Release - Using the Baofeng® Radio

New Book Release - Using the Baofeng® Radio

Using the Baofeng® Radio is a comprehensive gateway to the world of ham radio using Baofengs. It gives you everything you need to start using your handheld ham radio on the air legally, safely, and effectively. Get ready to use your radio to stay in touch with family and friends whether you are off the road, off the grid, or you want access to a reliable backup communication device. Discover uses for your ham radio, including how to relay your signal through a mountaintop repeater so you are heard far away, and a step-by-step guide to digital operations.

The book details operating with the popular UV-5R, the rugged UV-82, and the DMR-enabled DR-1801UV. Using the Baofeng® Radio covers how to program and use your radio with only the front panel and built-in settings. It then elaborates on using the free programming software CHIRP to program memory channels using a laptop or home computer. Finally, it describes how to program your radio to communicate around the world using Digital Mobile Radio (DMR), which you can access through repeaters or mobile hotspots.

RSGB 2025 Convention

The RSGB is delighted to announce that its 2025 Convention will take place from 10-12 October at Kents Hill Conference Centre in Milton Keynes.

Whether you want to discover something new, learn more about an aspect of amateur radio, or progress and develop your skills, you’ll find something at the RSGB 2025 Convention to explore and enjoy.

The Society is giving you the chance to help shape this year’s programme by suggesting a presentation, a topic, a practical session or a project.

Are you involved in some new research or an interesting project that will take amateur radio to new audiences? Have you helped to make amateur radio more accessible to people with different abilities? Or have you heard a brilliant speaker who has inspired you? Get involved by sending your proposals to convention@rsgb.org.uk

ARRL Foundation Accepting Grant Applications in June

The ARRL Foundation is accepting grant applications from amateur radio organizations for eligible amateur radio-related projects and initiatives, particularly those focused on educating, licensing, and supporting amateur radio activities. To grow amateur radio's future, youth-based projects and initiatives are especially encouraged.

The ARRL Foundation grants program accepts proposals on a cyclical model three times a year: in February, June, and October. Proposals for the June grant period are accepted through 30th June 2025. Awardees will be notified approximately 1 month after the closing of each cycle.

The ARRL Foundation carefully manages a portfolio of endowments where donors have provided specific goals for their gifts, and that portfolio is invested and managed in a way that it can continue to support those goals for many years to come.
