US Ham’s Save Kids from Surrounded Campfire

Children were rescued from recently from a campfire incident at the Lovell Canyon Ranch after a distress call was made by Michael Hilbert K2UZ.

The children were taking part in a camp designed for special needs when the incident happened. After the campers and staff left the ranch, the call was made, and picked up by Lynden Kendrick KG7SXQ.

Lynden Kendrick KG7SXQ was talking on his radio to a fellow ham in Malad City, Idaho, on a radio system known locally as the “InterMountain Intertie,” a system of unmanned amateur radio repeaters linked up and down the state of Utah and into Nevada, Arizona, Montana, Wyoming and Idaho when the call was received.

The alarm was raised, and to the emergency services in Valley Electric in Pahrump, who sent firefighters to attend the incident and bring the fire under control.

Kendrick was also able to make contact with power companies to restore power to the site.
