JARL Wants to Increase Youngsters Amateur Radio Experience Opportunities

Yoshinori Takao JG1KTC, President of the Japan Amateur Radio League, says a request has been submitted for regulation changes to facilitate the use of amateur radio by elementary and junior high school students

A translation of the President's New Year's post reads:

Until now, we have been actively working on the management of the federation, such as starting new initiatives, while having everyone understand the activities of the federation and working closely with related organizations and everyone involved. This year marks the 95th anniversary of the founding of the federation, and we will continue to manage the organization so that we can continue to serve our members and make them more satisfied as an attractive organization. I will push forward.

Last year, JARL, in collaboration with the Japan Amateur Radio Development Association (JARD), submitted a request to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications regarding the use of amateur radio in social contribution activities and the expansion of amateur radio experience opportunities for elementary and junior high school students. It was.

In recent years, when natural disasters occur frequently, amateur radio, which is also a useful communication method when lifelines are stopped, will become more widely available in daily life through volunteer activities in the event of an emergency disaster in the local community. In addition, we requested that the scope of operation by unqualified persons under the new system in April last year be further expanded to elementary and junior high school students.

With the submission of this request, the system was reviewed, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications solicited opinions on a partial amendment to the Radio Law Enforcement Regulations, such as initiatives related to amateur radio social contribution activities. In addition, we had an interview with Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Takeda, thanked him for his prompt response to this request, and asked for his cooperation in the license system as well as for the early realization.

Through the realization of the system revision for the social contribution of amateur radio and the expansion of experience opportunities, we will share the appeal of amateur radio and its role in society with more people even in the era of with Corona. We would like to nurture a wide range of amateur radio operators who will lead the next generation.

Thanks to you, JARL's radio information program "Radio JARL.com", which started in January 2019, has been broadcast more than 100 times. In the future, we will continue to inform you about JARL's activities and new movements related to amateur radio through various media including these broadcasting media.

Last but not least, we will continue to work as one team this year to improve the satisfaction level with the organizational management for our members in mind, and strive to develop the amateur radio world. We ask for your continued support even more than before.

We pray for the continued health and success of our members for the third year of Reiwa.
