The Intrepid Spirit Award

The Intrepid DX Group is seeking nominations for their annual Intrepid Spirit Award and Humanitarian Award. The Intrepid Spirit Award is made in memory of James McLaughlin, WA2EWE/T6AF (killed in Kabul, Afghanistan, on 27 April 2011).

The award is given to the individual or group that most displayed their “intrepid spirit” in 2018, by expressing “an unshakable commitment to the Amateur Radio DX Community”. The Humanitarian Award is given to the individual or group that most serves their fellow man via Amateur Radio. Nominations may be submitted via email to intrepiddxgroup[@]gmail.com and must be received by 15 January 2019.

The Board of Directors of the Intrepid DX Group will evaluate the nominations and the awards will be presented at the International DX Convention in Visalia on 13 April 2019.

The CWops Award 2019 for advancing the art of CW

CWops is pleased to announce that it is now accepting nominations for this prestigious award for the year 2019.

The purpose of the award is to recognize individuals, groups, or organizations that have made the greatest contribution(s) toward advancing the art or practice of radio communications by Morse code.

Criteria - Candidates for the award may be one or more of the following:

  • Authors of publications related to CW

  • CW recruiters, trainers, mentors, coaches and instructors

  • Public advocates of CW

  • Organizers of CW activities

  • Designers and inventors who advance the art or practice of CW

  • Other contributors to the art or practice of CW

Note: The award is not limited to amateur radio operators and organizations.

CWops Award 2019 Nomination

Nominations may be made by anybody (not limited to CWops members). Nominations should be emailed to <awards@cwops.org> with a copy to <secretary@cwops.org> .

In order to be considered, a nomination must be received by March 1, 2019 and include:

  • Name and call sign (if applicable) of nominee(s), and complete contact
    information including their postal address(es), email address(es), and
    telephone number(s).

  • A detailed explanation supporting nominee qualifications according to the above criteria.

  • Name, telephone number, email address, and call sign (if applicable) of the person submitting the nomination.

CWops Award 2019 Presentation of Award

A plaque will be presented to the recipient(s) at the Dayton Hamvention. If not attending, it will be sent to them.

UK Amateur Radio dealer Moonraker has announced a fun award that aims to increase activity on the 70/144/430 and 1296 MHz bands

The new award starts on 2nd January and maximum permitted power is 10 watts output.

You will need to log the first two characters of the postcode, with a few exceptions such as the Channel Islands. Logging Apps will be made available for iPhone/iPad, Android, and Windows.
