Following negotiations with the RSGB to minimise the impact on radio amateurs, Ofcom has announced that it will temporarily authorise up to four 25kHz channels, between 144.000 MHz and 144.100 MHz, for the period 22 July to 4 August 2014, to support the operation of the Commonwealth Games. The frequencies to be used specifically exclude 144.0500 MHz (CW Calling Frequency).

Usage of this spectrum by Commonwealth Games users will be in the vicinity of Glasgow games venues and will be limited to handheld equipment operating on a maximum of 5W ERP. Ofcom emphasises that use of Primary Amateur spectrum is only for the specified time period and does not constitute a change of usage.

Ofcom are aware of the very short notice and will authorise this usage on a “non-interference, non-protection basis”.  Amateurs in the Glasgow area are requested to avoid these frequencies until 4th August 2014.

70 MHz access for German Ham Radio Operators

The German Federal Network Agency has approved the use of 70.000 to 70.030 MHz by Class A radio amateurs from 2nd July until 31st August 2014.

Restrictions are similar to those for the 50 MHz band: 25 watts EIRP, all transmission types, maximum bandwidth 12 kHz horizontal antenna polarization. This means that in Germany for the first time since 1957, 4m working opportunities within the amateur radio service are possible.

The DARC say they will work with the agencies involved so that a permanent solution for access to the 4 m band, with its interesting propagation conditions is found.

13cm Amateur Radio Band Threatened in Holland

Dutch radio amateurs may lose a substantial segment of the 2300 MHz (13 cm) band

Recently, a segment of the 13cm band (2330-2400Mhz) has been temporarily removed from Dutch Amateur / Ham Radio band plan covering an area of 35km around Assen.

This is because these frequencies are used for the Dutch TT - A prelude to a permanent ban?
