Bermuda Closes AM / Medium Wave Radio Transmitters

Bermuda will be joining the growing list of radio countries no longer active on the AM broadcast band (medium wave). 

With the closure of the 1280 VSB2 relay of BBN and 1450 VSB1 Gold expected by the end of  September 2015.  

This news follows the closure in May of  the 1160 VSB3 relay of the BBC World Service due to transmitter maintenance issues and loss of sponsorship.

Acorn II 40m SDR Construction

UK Amateur / Ham Radio Operator Dan Trudgian M0TGN,  has released a video showing the construction of the Kanga Acorn II 40m Software Defined Radio 

This new kit from Kanga Products is a great introduction to Software defined radio. It uses through hole components, and has a well designed PCB, that can be enhanced and made into a multi band receiver.  

The Acorn II makes its debut at the National Hamfest, 25-26 September 2015, and has also been confirmed as the designated kit attendees will at the Buildathon event during the RSGB Convention, 10th October 2015

Indian Government Employees to learn Amateur / Ham Radio

As many as 80 Indian civil servants and NGO employees, including a sizeable number of women, drawn from state human resource development department, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Patna, Bihar State Disaster Management Authority, Patna Science College, TPS College, Indian Red Cross Society, Civil Defence and non-governmental organizations are attending the programme.

Bihar State Disaster Management Authority (BSDMA) vice-chairman Anil Kumar Sinha is encouraging the trainees to obtain licence from the government of India and to set-up amateur / ham radio clubs for serving humankind during disaster when all communication network collapses.
