Apply for Youngsters On The Air UK 2017

YOTA 2017, the 7th edition of Youngsters On The Air will be held in the UK, hosted by the RSGB.

The RSGB Youth Committee be be leading the preparations, supported by other divisions of the society.

The home of scouting, Gilwell Park in North-East London will be the site of the event. Gilwell Park boasts great facilities including a number of antenna towers and beams.

Activities will include

  • Intercultural evening
  • Visit to the historic Bletchley Park (home to the National Radio Centre and the codebreakers who managed to crack the Enigma code)
  • A day in London to explore its Science Museum, famous landmarks, and maybe do some souvenir shopping
  • Building your own radio kits
  • UK Foundation Licence Practical Assessments and Exam
  • Build your own radio receiver
  • Take part in the EU HF Contest
  • Operate the GB17YOTA station
  • Rifle shooting , kayaking , raft building, archery , zip wire, leap of faith
  • Antenna Building & SOTA Activation

White House Pushes for more Tiny Satellites

NASA and other agencies are giving microsatellites the resources they need to thrive.

Being less expensive and easier to deploy than the giant satellites of old, and housing advantaged technology to increase coverage, government agencies, led by NASA have launched an initiative to provide more resources to increase the number of launches.

NASA providing up to $30 million toward purchasing data collected by satellite groups, along with creating a Small Spacecraft Virtual Institute that will offer know-how to organizations.

Other projects see the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency awarding Planet a $20 million contract for a fleet of small satellites that can capture images of "at least" 85 percent of the planet every 15 days.

New version of ROS data mode

Jose Alberto Nieto Ros, EA5HVK has announced the release of a new version of the ROS HF weak-signal data mode

A new error correction code have been implemented in ROS mode and improves slightly decoding in HF conditions.

The new algorithm will start operating from 9th November 2016 with v7.4.0
