Cambodia and possible Myanmar op

Alex, M6CFW has recently received a license to operate as XU7WXA from Phnom Penh and will be using it when he visits the country for work.

“ I will try to be on-air as much as work permits. These trips are NOT designed to be full blown DXpeditions. Having said that if you need an XU7 for an award, then I'd be happy to arrange a sked and try to make contact” said Alex, M6CFW

“I will be using all HF bands, SSB and PSK31/63. I'm limited to 100W, but given how flat Cambodia is, I should still be able to reach pretty much anywhere. QSLs will be uploaded pretty much immediately to LoTW and eQSL.”

Alex will hopefully be operating soon from XY/XZ (Myanmar). Negotiations for licenses are well advanced.

VK9 now SOTA classified

The VK9 (Australian external territories) call area now has summits classified under SOTA as follows -

  • 1 summit on Christmas Island.
  • 2 summits on Norfolk Island.
  • 4 summits on Lord Howe Island

Congratulations to Wayne VK3WAM who gathered his gear together quickly and headed up to a local summit when he heard that the Norfolk Island VK9NT DXpedition had decided to activate the new SOTA summit today (Thursday), earlier than the originally planned Saturday.

Wayne has already posted a blog with pictures describing the action - http://waynemerry.wordpress.com/2013/05/09/activation-of-mt-dandenong-first-summit-2-summit-with-norfolk-island/

New 24 GHz EME world record

Rex VK7MO has completed a 16,383 km QSO with OK1KIR in the Czech Republic to claim the World record on 24 GHz.

Rex used just a 1.14 metre dish and 10 watts which he has designed for portable operation, while OK1KIR used a 4.5 metre dish and 22 watts.

This has been a 12 month project for Rex, which has involved working with Joe, K1JT to produce improved decoders that can cope with the very wide spreading of signals on 24 GHz EME.

Rex and Joe will be publishing this work in the next edition of DUBUS magazine which is devoted to VHF and Microwave Amateur radio.
