EURO 2016 Amateur / Ham Radio Award

Whist the UEFA European Championships are being held (10th June 10 10th July 2016), the Union des Radio clubs et radio amateurs, F8URC, have organised the participation of an award for Amateur / Ham Radio Operators.

Each contact (country's, stadiums, cities, departments) reports a certain number of points. The Award has several categories.

Ofcom Remove Amateur / Ham Radio Statistics

The UK communications regulator Ofcom say they are no longer publishing historic information, including amateur radio licence statistics, on their website

The amateur information used to be held at
http://licensing.ofcom.org.uk/radiocommunication-licences/amateur-radio/guidance-for-licensees/monthly-stats/

Now all that remains are the figures for May 2016 and they in turn will presumably disappear when the June figures are released.

White House honors Limor Fried AC2SN

The US White House has honored radio amateur Limor Fried AC2SN as White House Champion of Change

“While studying engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Limor ‘Ladyada’ Fried decided to create a company focused on supporting learning electronics for makers of all ages and skill levels.”

In 2005, Fried founded Adafruit which has grown to now employ more than 100 individuals in their 50,000 sq ft. NYC factory. Limor is committed to building both innovation and community and is known for creating resources for learning.

Limor was the first female engineer on the cover of WIRED magazine and was awarded Entrepreneur magazine's Entrepreneur of the Year in 2012 and was also on the NYC Industrial Business Advisory Council.

Adafruit is a 100% woman-owned company.
