Radio Ham Raises Money for 'NHS Charities Together'

Roy Bailey G0VFS of the Trowbridge and District Amateur Radio Club has raised money for “NHS Charities Together”

An auction item which was made and donated by Westbury man, Roy Bailey, has raised £1,025.99 for The Radio Society of Great Britain. The RSGB match-funded up to £1,000, bringing the total to over £2,000 for “NHS Charities Together.”

Roy, radio call sign G0VFS, is an active member of the Trowbridge and District Amateur Radio Club. He handcrafted his special Morse key during the lockdown.

2021 Carole Perry Educator of the Year Annouced

ARRL Life Member Neil Rapp, WB9VPG, of Bloomington, Indiana, is the 2021 recipient of the Carole Perry Educator of the Year Award. The award recognizes an outstanding individual contribution in educating and advancing youth in amateur radio. It was first awarded in 2018 to its namesake, Carole Perry, WB2MGP, in honour of her work as an educator teaching students about ham radio. Rapp was ARRL 2004 Professional Educator of the Year. He’s an Assistant Central Division Director and an ARRL VEC certified examiner.

An educational professional for more than 28 years, Rapp currently teaches chemistry at Bloomington High School South. He’s also the school’s amateur radio club sponsor and has introduced 3,600 students and parents to amateur radio through his involvement in the organization. Among his educational achievements, he was able to send an experiment involving protein crystallization to the International Space Station (ISS). He also mentored 2013 Amateur Radio Newsline Young Ham of the Year and ARRL William R. Goldfarb Memorial Scholarship recipient Padraig Lysandrou, KC9UUS.

Virgin Orbit’s LauncherOne was launched on Sunday 17th January 17 at 1800 UTC.

The vehicle will carry the AMSAT/Vanderbilt RadFXSat-2/Fox-1E CubeSat into space. The LauncherOne vehicle will carry 10 other satellites. RadFXSat-2/Fox-1E carries an inverting linear transponder, with uplink at 145.860 MHz – 145.890 MHz, and downlink at 435.760 MHz – 435.790 MHz. Telemetry will downlink on 435.750 MHz.
